| Our First Women's Teams |

In 1983-85, there were two Blizzard women's teams, one in Premier (or was it Div1) and one in a lower division. The Premier/Div 1 team was called the Falcons. It was coached by a variety of coaches, including Marino Sedran and Milan Bartoz (who is a Major coach now - Jaguars), and Joe Faubert, who also coached the lower team when Marino came in. The Falcons were quite successful, winning the league every year, and making it to Provincials only to always come second to the Edmonton Angels (every year for at least 2or 3 years). The Edmonton Angels went on to win the Jubilee Shield for five years in a row. We always only lost to the Angels by scores of 1 goal differences and if we could have gotten past them, we would have been contenders for the National Championships (I believe).
I left Calgary to play with the Angels after 1985 and lost track of the Falcons, but eventually they merged with the Dino Alumni (Uinversity of Calgary players) team and became the Falcon Dinos, which until recently, played in the CWSA Premier division.
There are a number of players that were on the Falcons that are still playing in CWSA, mostly now in the over 35 league. Anyway, just some tidbit news to give history to the women's side......
