The Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club (CBSC) is very pleased to announce the appointment of Diogo Raposo, as CBSC Sporting Director, a new Senior Leadership role within our organization effective November 1, 2022. As a result, Diogo will be providing the Technical Leadership and Coaching Staff with ongoing leadership and oversight in order to achieve the Club’s strategic and operational objectives including but not limited to planning and execution of the CBSC Player Pathway, identifying and attracting highly qualified and experienced coaches to the club, enhancing our Coaching Development Pathways and High Performance Stream, creating parity within our Soccer Programs and implementing a comprehensive Integrated Support Team (sport science, sports medicine, performance analysts etc.).

Diogo brings not only a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position, but is a respected leader with a demonstrated record of success and commitment to the game, our club and most importantly our players and coaches.

“I am thrilled to welcome Diogo Raposo into this new role within CBSC,” Nathan Cicoria, CBSC Executive Director. “He is an exceptional and inspiring leader with the vision, passion and skillset required to excel in this role and to build upon our tradition of development and opportunistic player pathways.”

Along with having a strong sport philosophy and a bold vision for the club’s future, Diogo values teamwork and cares deeply for the success and development of our athletes and coaches both on and off the field. With Diogo at the helm of our technical program, the possibilities of what we can accomplish ahead are unlimited.

“I am extremely excited to be moving into the Sporting Director role with the club I’ve called home for the past 6 years. We as a club have a tremendous staff who truly care about the development of both the player and person. My goal is to continue to provide a positive sport experience, creating pathways and opportunity for our athletes, while developing great people on and off the field. Calgary Blizzard SC has such a storied history and is at an exciting point with a new facility for the future, a future I’m elated to be a part of.”

Diogo has spent the last 5 years at CBSC as the Girls Technical Director and in addition to his leadership role at CBSC, also leads the University of Calgary Dinos Women’s Soccer Team as one of the Head Co-Coaches. Diogo holds his CSA National B License, Canada Soccer Youth License and Goalkeeper Diplomas.

Under his leadership, he has led countless athletes to their collegiate goals, succeeded in multiple provincial competitions, led the Edmonton Internazionale SC U18 Girls to a Canada Soccer Club National Championship in 2016, the overall 2006 AYSL Female league title in 2021 and most recently has led our U17 Girls to a bronze medal in the Canadian National Championships this season. Through these accomplishments he has been a champion for development excellence and an advocate for Fair Play and the Blizzard organization as a whole.

CBSC has found a leader who inspires teams, enables success through positive sport experiences and embodies the values of CBSC. He has an exceptionally high level of integrity and appreciation for family and community — while still bringing the competitive edge and experience needed to bring home wins and create pathways for our athletes.

Yours in Soccer,
