The U19 Rangers completed their 5 year journey with a gold medal in the 2018 Calgary Cup.

The Rangers won 2 and lost 1 to advance to the Gold medal game which was held Monday morning

at the Calgary Soccer Centre.

The Rangers were matched against the CNS Azzurri who handed the Rangers a 2-0 loss on Sunday.

The Rangers led by keeper McKenna, defended well against the CNS Azzurri  which had 19 corner kicks

in this gold medal match. McKenna had 5 lunging saves to keep the CNS Azzurri off the score sheet. The

Ranger’s strong back row led by Juliet, Sarah H, Mady, Julia, Kate and Lauren sacrificed shins, feet

and many other body parts to deny CNS Azzurri side.

The Rangers mids and strikers which included Jessie, Alicia, Claire, Danielle, Jordy, Sarah B., Maya, Anna

and Abbey incorporated a game plan that provide a push thru the mids up to the striker. Numerous

scoring chances were generated in the box by this group but none were able to find the back of the net.

After 80 minutes, no goals were allowed by either side so the gold medal match would be decided by

penalty kicks.

Defender Kate, striker Anna and mid fielder Jessie would find the back of the net for the Rangers.

Keeper McKenna would only allow 1 goal as the Rangers would win the shootout 3-1 after 4 kicks.

A jubilant Ranger family including players, coaches, manager, parents, Bennett, brothers and sisters and

support dogs would celebrate the gold medal victory after the final goal was scored.

Tears of happiness for the victory and some sorrow as this would be the last game for this group of girls

who had accomplished a Provincial gold, Winter Cup gold, and various other hardware throughout their

time together.

Defender Juliana and Katie B were not able to attend this tournament. Striker Grace, who was only able

to play the tournament opener, scored 4 goals and would have her name etched on the Golden Boot

award for the tournament.

The Blizzard Ranger family enjoyed an extended hugging and selfie session in field 4 to celebrate this

memorable moment together.

Thank you Blizzard Rangers!
