July 28, 2016 ‐ Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club is delighted to announce the appointment of the Club’s new Technical Directors. The Blizzard’s boys’ program will be headed by Brendan O’Connell and the girls’ program will be led by Glenn Ramsay.

Both Brendan and Glenn will bring a tremendous amount of leadership and technical guidance to our players as our Club continues to develop kids with a passion for soccer. Brendan and Glenn will begin their new roles effective September 1st. Blizzards will host an Open House night in September (details to follow) to formally introduce our new Technical Directors at which time they will share their vision for the technical program and outline more details on their roles and the impact they will have at Blizzards.

About Brendan

Brendan is a former English professional footballer who made 451 game appearances and scored 79 goals in the Football League as a midfielder for a number of clubs including Exeter City, Burnley and Barnsley. After suffering a career‐ending injury, Brendan retired from the game he loved but went on to coach Wigan Athletic’s youth and reserve teams.

After moving to Calgary, Brendan has been very involved in the Calgary soccer community. He is the current Head Coach of the University of Calgary men’s team, as well, he has held coaching roles with both the Villains and Foothills Soccer Clubs. Brendan has also been a lead boy’s coach with the Alberta Soccer Association’s Regional Performance Centre. Brendan has his UEFA A Coaching Diploma.

Brendan’s experience as an ex‐professional and through his current university coaching position will help guide the Blizzard boys to develop their game and expand their playing opportunities through Brendan’s extensive network of contacts within Europe and the university system in North America.

About Glenn

Glenn has been a long‐standing figure within the Blizzards Soccer Club, and will continue to put his stamp on the Club’s successful girls’ program. Since Glenn joined the Club in 1990, there have been 36 girls that he has coached that have gone on to gain university scholarships in NCAA, CIS and NAIA. Glenn, together with his company MVP Soccer, have coached 27 teams who have represented Blizzards at Provincials, winning 13 Calgary Championships, six Alberta titles and taking those Alberta champions on to compete at Nationals. Glenn has his International FA License and Advanced US National Diploma and has also been heavily involved in coaching teams for Alberta Soccer.
