To comply with the Canadian Soccer Association National Youth Club License criteria, player selections and team placement methods will be adapted to a preferred Canada Soccer assessment model for all CBSC players.

U7-U9 CMSA Player Placement Process

Placement for our U7-U9 CMSA players has a predominant focus on social relationships such as friendship requests (although not guaranteed) and like-minded players being grouped together. If a player is placed within a group and feel they are not grouped appropriately, the Technical Lead will assess the placement to ensure the player is in an optimal developmental environment. U10-U13 Player Placement Process

Player Placement Process:

  1. For returning players, Technical staff observation and assessment from the previous season
  2. Individual Player Competencies (IPC’S) observed during the season technical sessions, games and team training
  3. Player Placement Session performance for required players. Returning players do not need to attend player placement sessions.
  4. Placement date schedule will be posted here and communicated by email.

Roster Release Process:

  1. After the Player Placement Process is complete, teams will be formed and players will be notified of team placements accordingly.
  2. Players will be notified by email with placement details, including coach, team name and tier (if applicable).
  3. Players will continue to be assessed by coaches and technical staff through the first two weeks of the season, as an ongoing process. Any players that the technical staff feel have been initially misplaced will be moved to the appropriate team.

As always, we will ensure that the honesty and integrity of the team placement process remains intact. Calgary Blizzard SC reserves the right to combine age groups if deemed appropriate in order to place like minded players together.

U14-U17 Player Placement Process

To comply with the Canadian Soccer Association National Youth Club License criteria, player selections and teams will be formed using a season-long assessment process. Therefore, we will no longer be holding traditional “Evaluations”. This will be a change, but also a continuation of the processes in place CBSC staff use during a season currently. This consists of the following:

  • Technical staff observation and assessment from the previous season
  • Individual Player Competencies (IPC’S) observed during the season technical sessions, games and team training
  • Team Coach assessment and feedback from previous season

Moving forward, CBSC will operate a 6-7 month assessment period starting during registration intake (September/October) and ending in February/March, depending on the age group. Player performance in all training and games between September and February/March is the most significant assessment period. This period is the main opportunity for players to showcase their abilities and earn selection for the team for the following season.

Players who wish to be considered for selection into this season’s program must register online no later than deadline specified on the website.

Player Placement Process:

  1. For registered returning players, CBSC technical staff will review IPC reports and consider feedback with each player’s previous head coach, technical staff, and support staff to discuss the roster selections for the following season.
  2. New to Club Players, once registered, will attend a training session with an existing CBSC Team in their age group. A schedule for the session will be sent to players by e-mail and posted on our website. Technical Staff will have a chance to assess players and determine the most developmentally appropriate placement for each player. In addition to this initial session, Technical staff and team coaches will use the first two weeks of the season to observe and evaluate all new to club players before determining their final roster placement for the season. Initial placements will be received by e-mail the first week of October.

    • Players will be notified by email with placement details, including coach, team name and tier (if applicable).
    • Players will continue to be assessed by coaches and technical staff throughout the season as it is an ongoing process; any players that the technical staff feel have been initially misplaced will be moved to the appropriate team.

Appeals Process

In the event a player feels that they have been misplaced, we have an Appeals Process that they can initiate by completing the following:

  • Please complete the Player Placement Appeal Form
  • Once the form is complete, please e-transfer the $100.00 appeal fee to info@calgaryblizzard.com
    • Please ensure “Appeal Payment” is included in the notes section of the e-transfer.
  • Appeal results will either be refused or granted with further comment provided by email within 10 business days of receipt of appeal form and payment. No appeals will be discussed over phone, in person or otherwise.
    • Any appeals granted will be accompanied by a refund of the $100 appeal fee.
